Chapter Nine

The food disappeared nearly as quickly as three teenagers brought it. Marcus currently cuddled Kellan on his knee. His mate was disgusted because even though for once he had been ravenous and hadn’t felt at all sick, he’d been full after merely one bagel and half a glass of juice. In fact he’d only finished the bagel because Marcus had broken small pieces of the second half and fed them to Kellan.

He’d kept a close eye on Nate, but neither Ricoh, Kellan, nor the other wolves who milled about the room seemed to see anything wrong. Marcus was just puzzling this after Kellan had complained he needed to pee and him and Nate had gone to the bathroom, when Blaze leaned over. “You’re wondering why none of the others have noticed?”

Marcus glanced at Blaze.

“I think it’s limited to Alphas,” he said quietly. They both watched as Lilly appeared and greeted everybody. She had been in the back, making bread. Marcus followed Blaze’s look as Kellan and Nate came back from the bathroom. Lilly looked up and gaped. She twisted around to Blaze and Marcus in shock, then smiled and met both Kellan and Nate, giving them motherly hugs and sympathizing with the constant need to pee every five minutes. She shot another careful look at Blaze before disappearing back into the kitchen.

“I think that’s our answer,” Marcus said. He knew Lilly was an Alpha.

“This day gets more interesting every second,” Darric drawled.

Marcus thought hard. “I think we need to keep it to ourselves for the time being. What worries me the most is Nate’s dad. He’s an Alpha.” Marcus simply didn’t trust the man.

Blaze drummed his fingers on the table absently. “Let me have a think. It may be we need to talk to Nate, and let him make the decision.” Marcus fell quiet and watched both his mates lovingly as they settled back down. Ricoh was playing with Beth; he was going to make a good dad.

The door opened and Matt appeared, all smiles. Blaze grinned. “Go on dad. I bet you can’t help asking if it’s going to be a girl or a boy.”

Marcus grinned, suddenly feeling lighter. Blaze was right. Whatever else was going on, it was time to be a dad. Kellan looked at him eagerly as Marcus held out a hand to help him stand. Marcus blinked as Kellan struggled and he bent to put an arm under his and brought him upright gently. Kellan seemed even bigger than yesterday if that were even possible.

Nate handed Saska back to Aden along with the ball, the truck, and the teddy. The teddy came shooting straight back, and Nate laughed and handed it back again.

“Well, I’ll be,” Conner said, stunned.

“What?” Marcus said.

Conner smiled. “Watch.”

Saska suddenly leaned forward and put his chubby hand on Nate’s belly. Nate’s eyes seemed to glaze slightly, and then he shook his head. He smiled at Saska. “Thank you sweetie. I’ll keep it safe so you can both play with it.”

“Both?” Marcus said weakly.
